Thanks to volunteers Sam Crothers and Yoo-Mi Lee for taking the photos.
Sam wrote a summary of the event:
Saturday of September 19, 2009 was a perfect day for the Fraser Riverkeeper to hold a successful shore cleanup at Spanish Banks West. Couples, veteran shore cleaners, families, and singles came to clean the shores in the two hours before noon. After coffee and doughnuts, and a quick speech from the Executive Director Lauren Brown, prospective beach combers eagerly set out to make part of the world a cleaner place.
“We picked up a lot of garbage including, beer cans, metal pipes, chip packets, many cigarette butts and oddly enough golf balls,” Lauren Brown said. After the big cleanup many participants seemed satisfied gazing over the beautiful beach now being garbage free–at least for the moment. Fraser River Keeper would like to thank everyone who came as well as TD for making this possible.
