Mary of Fraser Riverkeeper is in the last row, right-hand side. It is customary with First Nations to raise the paddles when coming toward shore. When doing so, the lead flagship canoe’s chief will request permission to come ashore from the chief whose land we are entering. This was a wonderful ritual to experience.
