If you love the Fraser River and care about its ecological health and preservation, you might want to consider joining Fraser Riverkeeper’s Riverwatcher program. We endeavor to unite Riverwatchers all along the Fraser, from headwaters to mouth. We’re currently well-represented south of Hope, but seek others both in the lower mainland and on the upper freshwater portions of the river.
A Riverwatcher is a concerned citizen and volunteer who watches and listens to the river when boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, wading, or just observing. Riverwatchers will learn to be aware of the river’s basic hydrology and flow, what threatens the river, and how to help preserve and restore it. Riverwatchers will work with their local community, and with us, to identify and resolve any problems seen on their local section of the river. Together we aim to serve the river with both practical and creative restoration projects, whether it’s a beach cleanup, a project with students in the community, or working with local developers and others to ensure the river’s health is maintained.
Fraser Riverkeeper provides support for Riverwatchers, including a Riverwatch patch with our pollution hotline number, annual meetings, an interactive blog and site with a wealth of information, a reference guide with documentation tools and great resources, and staff to answer any questions you might have. When funding allows, we can also can come out to your site and do sampling, and we have the legal means to support private prosecutions and investigations of polluters.

Thanks, Mary, for setting up this forum for our Riverwatchers to keep in touch with each other and with us. I like the navigation structure you’ve set up: that should allow us all to keep comments in relevant ‘threads’ and develop discussions that are useful to everyone.
I thank you for your continued work and also point out that where I am (Anniville Slough) the Gateway Highway Project construction is stripping all the trees (and wild life….eagles herons and much more) and causing all the streams to be filled up with gravel and debris
I would ask some one to have a look
And of course you are free to use my docks and marina any time
Cheers
Nice to meet you. There is something about the Delta clear-cutting here: http://www.fraserriverkeeper.ca/riverwatcher/?cat=4. Maybe we could expand that discussion and figure out a way to raise awareness of the problems it is causing. I will also mention it to our Riverkeeper, Doug Chapman. And thanks very much for extending the invitation to your marina and dock. We patrol the Fraser looking for pollution, and may have our boat up that way at some point.
