Lauren Brown Hornor has been drawn to water ever since she was a young girl, hunting for shells on the Florida beaches where she grew up. Channeling her love of water, Lauren provided legal support and guidance to Waterkeeper organizations across the country while working at Waterkeeper Alliance (WKA) in New York. Lauren was responsible for the WKA’s Clean Water Act Defense program, and while at the Pace Environmental Litigation Clinic, she represented Hudson Riverkeeper in various pollution enforcement actions in the Catskill Mountains and on the River.
After launching Fraser Riverkeeper in 2007 and serving as its Executive Director for 11 years, Lauren became the Board President and accepted the role of Vancouver Waterkeeper and Officer with Swim Drink Fish Canada. Lauren's commitment to clean water was recognized at the 2016 Waterkeeper Gala in Toronto as one of twelve Swim Drink Fish Ambassadors, and was the 2019 YWCA Woman of Distinction Award Recipient for the Environmental Sustainability category. Lauren also founded Miami Waterkeeper in her hometown in 2010 and served as its board chair for 10 years.
