Are you passionate about plastic cleanup? Do you enjoy sorting items? If this sounds like your kind of party, register for one of Fraser Riverkeeper’s waste characterization sessions.
Join Alicia, our Community Science Coordinator, as she empties our Granville Island Seabins, rummages through their contents, and records notable observations. Expect to handle lots of wet discarded trash and plastics. Be prepared for a messy, yet rewarding experience.
Time: 9:30am-12:30pm
Place: We will meet at the Vancouver Water Monitoring Hub, located at 1806 Maritime Mews, Vancouver, V6H 3X2.
You will need:
- Weather appropriate clothing
- Waterproof, grippy footwear is optimal for navigating potentially wet, slippery docks. We recommend a pair of insulated gloves or hand warmers during cold temperatures. An important task of waste characterization is to fill out observation sheets, you will need warm hands to write clearly.
- A snack and water bottle
- Sunscreen
- A face mask, as pertains to COVID-19 safety protocols.
