Protecting 30% by 2030

First Nations stewardship is central to achieving this vision.

We intend to utilize the intentions of DRIPA and UNDRIP to properly position BC First Nations in a meaningful place at the table.

In partnership with the Indigenous Stewardship Fund (ISF), we will build on a decade-long body of work by the First Nations Fisheries Council to create formal partnership agreements and networks among Nations. These agreements will advance a coherent and strategic approach to creating protected areas.

We will centre the conservation approaches and leadership of First Nations, supporting their efforts to protect vital habitats. Our campaign ushers in a new era of conservation grounded in reconciliation, preventing fragmented conservation efforts and instead securing a unified and protected watershed.

To achieve 30% protection

by 2030, the campaign will:

Collaborate directly with First Nations to understand their conservation visions and resourcing needs.

Facilitate meaningful partnerships between First Nations and organizations that can amplify their efforts.

Map existing protected areas and proposed Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas (IPCAs) to develop a cohesive Fraser Watershed conservation strategy.

Launch a high-profile community-building campaign, mobilizing broad public, governmental, and private sector support—demonstrating clearly to First Nations that British Columbia stands with them.
